There is only a 3 percent chance that smokers who try quitting will be successful. However, this does not mean that quitting is impossible. To quit smoking easily, one can adopt five easy steps.
Resolve to quit smoking: Start by analyzing smoking habits, how much smoking costs and the amount of health risks to which smoking exposes one?s body. These are enough reasons to make a smoker resolve to stop smoking. If one smokes two packets of cigarettes a day, try saving that money and see just how much will have been accumulated by the end of a week. Read about the dangers of smoking and resolve not to end up like the people who die of lung cancer or those who end up loosing their limbs because of the negative effects of nicotine.
Get ready: Getting ready to quit smoking involves adopting a stop smoking system. One must however arm them selves with enough knowledge on what will happen after they quit smoking. They must read and learn from other peoples experiences on how they handled the temptations to smoke. In preparation, the smoker who wants to quit should consider buying anti-smoking kits that would help him during the period right after he quit smoking. They should also have set goals, have a good enough reason to quit smoking and device strategies to avoid ever smoking again.
Quit- The more a person delays quitting, the more likely they will never do it. So figure how to quit smoking and get on with it. Shifting the smoking goal posts only makes harder for one to quit. It will not be easy, but the results are worth the efforts. The cravings differ from one person to another, but dealing with them is more like the same. It is also wise to avoid being around smokers because the smell of tobacco will tempt the smoker to take a puff, do not have any cigarettes in the house and use stop smoking aids like nicotine patches and gums to help the body adjust to the nicotine deprivation. Remember that nicotine is a highly addictive chemical and the human body is bound to react differently depending on the length of time the smoker had used it. Get someone to be accountable to; a sponsor: Being accountable to someone about the anti-smoking strategy should give the smoker more reasons to stay away from the cigarettes. One can, for instance give them something that they really treasure to hold until four to five months of staying free of smoking. If they have a bad habit, they are trying to get rid off, the smoker can make a deal that he or she will help them stay away from it, and in turn, they are on the look out during the anti smoking plan.
Reward yourself: After conquering each hurdle in the anti smoking efforts, it is wise to reward yourself - probably using the money that would have been used to buy the cigarettes. Once the cravings diminish, one can celebrate with a group of friends. By witnessing the progress, friends and family will give the smoker the motivation to quit smoking.
